There is a new budget elliptical trainer on the market the Universal E40 Elliptical Trainer. It has all the features of the ever popular Schwinn A40 Elliptical that was recently discontinued that we were big fans of. In this review we will see which is the best elliptical: the Schwinn A40 or the Universal E40.

When we first saw the Universal E40 we were quite surprised to see that its virtually identical to the Schwinn. Everything about it seems the same from the print on the pedals to the layout of the console. I would go as far as saying that they are the same machine.
What we want to know is whether to go for the universal, or the Schwinn?
Features of the Universal E40 Elliptical.
The E40 is a good entry level elliptical, all the features you could need for your workout are here, there is a good mix of workout programs, variable resistance heart rate monitors and speakers built into the console.
We find the elliptical comfortable enough, whats great is that it is quite compact. Higher end ellipticals take on a presence of their own with the huge amount of floor space they take up.
- Assembled dimensions: 56L x 23.7W x 64.5H in
- 8 resistance levels
- Perimeter-weighted, high-intertia flywheel
- LCD console displays time, RPM, distance & hear rate
- Heavy-duty steel frame
- Weight capacity: 275 lbs
E40 Elliptical Warranty.
Even when buying a relatively low cost item you want the peace of mind that comes with a Manufacturers Warranty. This is where we have our biggest concerns about the E40 elliptical. If you buy the Schwinn then you know that there is a huge company supporting any warranty claim, if a part is missing when you try and assemble then help is only a call away.
Universal E40 Elliptical Review Summary
What we were really looking for though was a point of difference from the Schwinn, and really there is none. Build quality is about the same (although the Schwinn possibly has the slight edge here), the features are identical the only difference is the name. The E40 is really a copy of the A40, as the E40 has now replaced the old A40 then it would make a good buy as a budget elliptical.
Our view is that there is no real difference between this and its older version the Schwinn A40 Elliptical. both are equally capable at providing a great workout. The A40 makes a great replacement for the old classic.
