New from Yawza is a different take on weight loss and training. The Yowza Daytona Treadmill is designed for runners and athletes in mind. What you have is a stunningly designed treadmill that feels as good as it looks. Despite its price of less than $2000 it feels like it should be worth more, and would not look out of place in a professional gym.

It’s running credentials come from a quality 3.0CHP motor, a long 60″ running track along with a great display and 12% incline. We will look into each of these features in depth.

Motor

At its heart is a powerful 3.0CHP motor. Not all treadmill motors are created equal, and while 3.0 CHP may not be the most powerful at this price it is probably the best made. The Sole S77 packs a 4.0 CHP motor, but the Yowza seems to have a lot of power in reserve.

This motor is capable of pushing the Daytona to 11mph. This is more than enough to keep your heart pounding, especially if you engage the electrically controlled 12% incline at the same time.

IWM – Intelligent Workout Management

Exclusive to Yowza is the Intelligent Workout Management (IWM) system. As you can see from the image the Daytona comes with a free set of bluetooth digital scales. These are designed to link with the treadmill, and can share your progress towards weight and BMI targets. All these data are then stored on the Yawza IWM app that can integrate with your iPad or iPhone.

This system is simple to use:

Hit the IWM button on the console
Step on the scales to measure your weight and BMI
Get back on the treadmill, and your workout will automatically adjust to build a program designed to meet your required calorie goals!

This is the first time I have seen this system on any fitness equipment, and really sets Yowza apart from the other machines.

Treadmill Deck

No matter how big you are, there should be room on the Daytonas deck. Measuring 60″ by 20″ there is no risk of running off the front, or rolling off the back. Even if you have the biggest stride you will feel like you have plenty of room here.

To keep things quiet Yowza have come up with their Swing Arm Shock absorbent system. To see how this sounds there is a clip of an older model using the same system in the video section. It really does keep the noise down!

Console

A neat console is presented to the user. Its been really well thought out with the main controls easy to access and understand. If you are the sort that just wants to get on with it, then you can hit the quick start button. When rolling just set the incline at your prefered level and run. On the other hand, if you like the machine to set you up with a warm up/cool down and a good workout in the middle then you are in for a treat.

The built in programs can test you in a multitude of different ways, 5km training, 10km training, endurance, Interval or heart rate traning programs are all availible:

Three target programs: Time, Speed and Distance which can be set to count up or down
Three preset programs with 12 levels of intensity each
Intelligent Workout Management (IWM) generated program- an automatic program based on your latest parameters
Speed interval training offering 12 levels of intensity
Weight loss program
5K runningor walking “LEARN” program. This program will see how you perform and adapt for later runs, do you prefer to start slow and build up? The Learn program will notice this and adapt to your style.
Heart Rate Control Program, works with a chest strap to ensure the treadmill is running at a level to get your heart right in the middle of the training zone.
Fitness Test
In addition there are three slots for you to set your own workout program. Tailored to your needs.

Finally, you will find a couple of easy to reach cup holders, Two variable speed fans and even some good quality speakers. The speakers can be powered from an iPhone etc mounted on the front of the console.

Assembly

Ok, so a little home assembly is required. Its helpful if you have two pairs of hands for this! If you decide to do it yourself rather than pay the extra $200 (or so) for someone else to do it for you, then you will find the job is fairly straight forward. To the left is an image of the first assembly step:

The parts are packed in the order you need them, and easily labeled. It might take a couple of hours, so you might want to plan a weekend. All the tools are included, so no searching at the back of the tool drawer for a long lost spanner.

Yowza don’t make low cost entry level models, every machine they make cuts no corners to get the price to an artificial level. Users are again and again surprised how far this machine exceeds their expectations. In every case it either feels better, or is quieter than people are used to.

Yowza are a strictly online retailer, they don’t go through shops. This may be why they are able to offer so much machine for less than $2000. To save a little leg work we would recommend going to Amazon, or Yowza Direct. Both have a similar price but in our experience Amazon provide slightly better service.
