Why are treadmill so popular? Its because they work! An hour of running 3-4 times a week will keep you lean and strong. Why waste that time travelling to the gym when you can be in the comfort of your own home?
Today we are looking at one of the best selling treadmills in the world. The Proform Power 995 Treadmill. It is without doubt one of the most feature packed treadmills on the market, and we will look through each of these and see if combined elevates this treadmill to being one of the best buys for you.
Starting with the Motor:
To move from a walking speed needs power. Proform have equipped this model with a powerful 3 CHP motor. CHP is the level of continuous power that the motor can output. 3 CHP is enough to keep you running at speeds of 12mph up the full incline of the machine. This is the equivalent of running a 10 km race in 31 minutes! With the world record at 26 minutes, the 995c should be enough for anyone.
Treadmill Base
The base of the treadmill is equipped with Pro Shox Elite 2 cushioning. This is a fancy way of saying that the running base is well padded. It actually soaks up a lot of the noises from the impact of the foot. This keeps the noise down, and more importantly cushions the shock of the stride minimising injury to you the runner.
With all this cushioning the treadmill is able to take runners up to 325lbs.
As you run you can feel the strength of the tubular steel frame, providing real support to the machine and minimises the flex and bend that you feel on some models.
Running Up Hill
It can be hard enough running on the flat, but if this is not enough for you then there is a built in motorised incline that lifts you up 15^0. This adds an extra challenge to the workout. Running up the hill can be useful, not only for fitness but also for working other muscles in the body.
One nice feature of the incline is that its coupled with the iFit Life system, and can emulate the running path of lots of locations round the world. Which actually brings me to the first negative about this product.
If you are prepared to spend an additional $100 you can upgrade to the next model the Proform Power 995i. This includes the iFit model as standard. With the 995c you have to buy this as an option for, you guessed, it $100.
Console
There is an extremely smart console fitted to the 995C treadmill. All the standard details are present and you can see at a glance speed, distance, calories burned, heart rate etc.
In addition there are 30 built in workout options. Most of these are calorie burning, in addition there are 10 google maps powered workouts. These are the ones where the incline adjusts as your route changes. A great upgrade and really keeps the workout interesting. Another nice feature is when running up an incline it shows how high you have climbed. I have not come across this before and its a great idea.
The programs can be customised to tailor the workout to your needs.
Heart Rate Monitoring
The Proform is equipped with hand grip pulse monitors, however I personally don’t like using these as it puts my stride off. Fortunately in addition to the hand grips you can connect to the treadmill with a standard Polar Chest Strap, although this is not included.
Folding
Yes, the 995c is a folding treadmill as you can see from the image that it folds up to a reasonably compact shape for easy storage. To make this process easier, there is the easy lift assist of two hydraulic rams to help the lifting.
Dimensions
This is a sizable machine and measures 81″ L x 37″ W x 59.5″ H when extended.

If you order through Amazon its currently just under $1000, and they have the option of delivering to a room. They will also provide an extended 5 year warranty for about $120.
What do others think of the Proform
We have done a lot of research into treadmills, and its clear that this is a really popular model. Most people give it positive feedback and enjoy running regularly on it. Its a great option to have when the temperatures are extreme outside!
Once assembled and up and running this is a great machine!

If I was going down a check list of requirements for my next treadmill it would be: 60″ x 20″ belt 3.0 CHP motor, incline and minimum speed of 12mph. The Proform 995c checks all these! Now its a matter of quality and price. The Proform ships with a reasonably warranty, and is available for less than $1000.
The nearest competitor is the Lifespan TR1200i treadmill, also for sale at $999. However the Proform 995c has that slightly longer track and for us that gives it the edge.
