- Proform 505 CST Treadmill Review Summary:
If you are looking to set up a small home gym, or just want a cardio machine for a workout before work then a Treadmill is probably the best investment you can make. The great news is that prices are coming down all the time. Now is a great chance to buy a full featured treadmill for not much more than a few months gym membership. Today we review the ProForm 505 CST treadmill. This is one of the top sellers in the mid range market.
To ensure that we cover everything we will also compare it against some of its competitors at the same price (around $600) in particular the Horizon Fitness T101-04 Treadmill.
With modern technology and high quality materials ProFrom seem to have set out to build a machine that will last, and feel good as you use it. This is also a folding treadmill so its easy to store when not in use.
The Proform 505 CST Motor – powering your run
At the heart of this machine is a 2.25CHP motor. This is enough power to let you run at a max speed of 10mph. This is fast enough to let you really stretch out and feel like you have had a good run. The motor is cooled with a very quiet fan, keeping everything cool while not being intrusive.
Treadmill Base
More than anything else its the running platform that will determine the quality of your workout. Profrom have put alot of thought into this and have coupled a number of technologies to make this as comfortable and quiet as possible:
The first is the advanced cushioning found under the base. This sucks up the big thumps as you run, preventing the shock transmitting through your legs and potentially causing injury.
Next up comes the belt itself, this has been designed to provide great traction for your feet, it also provides support as you run.
Overall you have a good sized running surface 20″ wide and 50″ long. This may be a little short if you are over 6′ tall. Its going to be plenty of space for most runners. If you do want a longer machine then the Proform Power 995c has a 60″ running pitch.
To add an extra dimension to your run, the bed inclines up to 10 degrees. This is great for working out different muscles in your legs and is perfect for toning.
Workouts and Technology
If you are a fan of gadgets then you are in luck. There are some great, and easy to use features built into the 505 CST. I really like the iFit live system that is available. This charts your workout on google maps and lets you see where you are running on the map. Its a great feeling to see the route you are running! Imagine running through the streets of the Boston Marathon or up in the hills?
Ifit Enabled
To enable the iFit you will need to buy the iFit module which costs about $100, but it will add a huge extra dimension to your workout that if you are like me keeps me going back again and again.
Console
On to the console, this is what you will be looking at for hours on end. And I have to say it looks great
At the center of the Proform 505 are all the controls and settings needed to make your workout run smoothly and simply. The buttons are comfortable and easy to access, its really easy to workout which each one does.
Folding Treadmill
The final feature worth mentioning is that this treadmill can actually fold up. This makes it a great space saving option. After your workout simply raise the treadmill base up, and store it away on the transport wheels.

Our Verdict on the Proform 505 Treadmill:
While some users felt that it could be a little noisy. We did not notice this, this was probably due to the set up, we always use a treadmill mat to ensure that the machine does not slide on the floor and dampens the sound down.
Given the overwhelming support for this machine we cannot but recommend it. With a price tag of less than $700 its a bit of a steal!
If you want to start your running journey, then the Proform 505 CST treadmill is a good quality, low cost way of beginning.
Proform 505 CST Treadmill Review Summary:
We really like the stability and comfort of this machine, you can still hear your TV if you are wanting to pass the time while running!
If you are looking for a simple, low cost treadmill that will let you run a few miles each week in comfort the Proform 505 is the pick of the bunch at around $500.
