Elliptical Motion

The designers of this elliptical wanted just one feature to stand out, and that is a comfortable smooth ride.  That is why the 9.33 (and all other Precor Ellipticals) are rear drive.  This means that the flywheel is behind the rider.  The advantage of this is to allow a more natural path to be followed by the pedals.

Also because the mechanical parts are behind you, any noise they emit (and that is not much) is less likely to be heard.  This makes the Precor elliptical machines extremely quiet.  Ideal for the home or in a  multi user setting.

Incline & Stride Settings:

To increase the effectiveness of the workout the incline can be adjusted to suit your needs.  The strong one piece aluminum ramp can be adjusted from 15 to 25 degrees.

As you increase the incline the stride can adjust from 21″ to 23″

CrossRamp

At the heart of any elliptical exercise is the motion of the pedals.  Precor were the pioneers of the Elliptical Training machine, and have put countless hours of design and testing to make it perfect.  With the CrossRamp Technology it is possible to change the incline of the trainer.  This will allow you to train more muscle groups, eg calfs or thighs.

Precor have taken this to a new level, with CrossRamp they have managed to achieve this without changing the elliptical path.  Most manufactures change the orbit of the elliptical so you end up with a longer stride as you go up the hill.  This can get uncomfortable if you are shorter.

With this top of the range model the incline is automatically adjustable from 0 to 40 degrees.  There are no other ellipticals that offer the same level of adjustment, and really sets the Precor apart.

Display

Taken direct from the commercial models it contains all the features that you would expect to find in a gym.  The main one being that user details for 4 people can be saved.  This means that you don’t need to enter you weight and height details every time you step onboard.

With the 5.33 there is an immense number of variables that can be monitored via the 7 LED displays: watts, vertical feet climbed, workout summary, time, strides, strides per minute, SmartRate, resistance level, program profile, heart rate, distance, angle, CrossRamp angle, calories burned and calories burned per minute.

At the top of the console is a good sized drinks holder, plus a shelf for an MP3.  If you want to read while you ride then there is a good ledge that would hold an iPad.  If you do this then you can still see the key workout details on the row of LED’s below the ledge.

On Amazon there was a negative review, a user reported that their machine was very noisy.  After posting their review Precor came out a couple of times and fixed the machine despite it being out of warranty.

And the Negatives?

This is about the best elliptical you can buy.  It is expensive, however you are not going to get this quality or attention to detail spending less.  One slight niggle for me is the heart rate, the sensor is only on the stationary handlebars, not on the moving ones.  If you want to keep track on your heart rate then a chest strap would be a good choice.
