What makes the Bowflex PR1000 Stand out?

This is a slim line unit packed with over 30 exercises. For a price of under $500 it works out as good value.

Each of the 30 exercises is designed to target a single group of muscles, and it is clear that Bowflex have given thought to each of the groups targeted. Through your workout its easy to switch muscle groups and complete a full body routine. Alternatively you can focus on parts of your body such as arms, shoulders etc.

Out of the box, the Bowflex is fitted with 210lb of weight however unlike the more expensive models this weight cannot be upgraded. The weight increments go up in 5lb sections.

Weight resistance is delivered through the Bowflex Power Rod system, which means that you cannot add iron to the system. What it does do is allow for a very compact unit, and with its innovative pulley system the cables remain fixed and do not need to be adjusted for every workout.

Exercises:

bowflex pr1000 review

There are no shortage of exercises that can be performed on the Bowflex. The list of exercises appears well thought out:

Of the main exercises you have:

Chest: Bench / Incline / Decline Press
Arms: Triceps Pushdown / Bicep Curls
Back: Pull downs
Legs: Leg raise, Calf Raise, Leg Press
Shoulders: Shoulder Press.

The main ones missing for my liking are the Squat, and the Overhead Press. However the number of exercises does mean that these muscles are covered with other combinations.

How the resistance is delivered.

The Bowflex uses an innovative cable system to safely deliver the weight. Out of the box the maximum is 210lb, which can be increased in 5lb increments. The advantage of the cables, and they do look complex, is that you do not need to reconfigure the machine to move from one workout to the next. Finish squats and you can go straight in to chest exercises .

This cuts workout time and means that you can focus on the exercises, not playing with the kit.

Ease of use

Most of the exercises revolve around the seat, This has been well designed to be easily and quickly adjusted and provides plenty of knee and back support as well as being comfortably padded. The material is strong and looks able to support the weight of the lifter and the weights.

There is a handy instruction card to show how each exercise is preformed. With the weight limited to 210 lb then it will be essential to lift with proper form. Good slow movements will allow for muscle growth, rather than swinging and using momentum.

Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym User Reviews

Enough from me, lets see what other users of the Bowflex Pr1000 have to say.

This version, is one of the top selling home gyms on Amazon, and has received over 250 reviews, averaging 4.4 out of 5.0 stars

“The best workout gym ever!!!” with free delivery and a $100 saving in tax one reviewer really liked the service from Amazon.

I wanted a gym at home instead of joining a gym and wasting money on membership fees and having to wait in line for the weight area to become free.

Amazing I don’t think much else needs to be said the only complaint I have is the leg press on this machine isn’t exactly useful.

Any issues or complaints?

The only real negative is that the leg exercises on this machine are a little light, which is probably a fair comment. If you are looking for heavier weight leg exercises then you might want to consider the more expensive PR3000 which is upgradable to 310lb and has over 50 exercise.  You could compliment with a set of adjustable dumbbells such as the Bowflex 552 Adjustable Dumbbells to help with the legs.

Summary:

For the price you get an extremely well made and versatile home gym. Its compact and easy to use, and defiantly going to provide years of use.

We like the quick changes to the workouts, the good levels of resistance and the overall build quality. If you are looking for an entry level home gym, then we would certainly recommend the Bowflex PR1000.
