We have long been fans of Schwinn Fitness equipment. The Schwinn brand is an all American Icon their heritage is in pedal bikes, and they have used their knowledge to make some great value and quality fitness equipment. What are the main Features of the Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike?
Its clear to see that even though the price is less than $400, the build quality is great! The whole bike is built of a solid oval tube frame that gives great strength and rigidity to the bike. At the end of the frame is a comfortable and spacious saddle that unlike some doesn’t cause aches and pains during the workout. Because its vented air can come through the back and keep you cool and let the sweat out.
To keep you motivated during the workout is a great console that has all the features that you might expect, including 22 workout programs and 20 levels of resistance.
Whats New for 2016?
The biggest issue with the original model was the display.
Technology has moved on massively in the last two years and we are demanding more from our fitness equipment. The new 2015 now includes some more surprises such as fitness tracking through an easy to use connection to MyFitnessPal. MFP is a great app if you are looking to shed weight and exercise more as it can track not only your workout but also your calorie intake.
Along with the connectivity there has been a refresh to the layout of the console. It now includes a split screen that is perfect for holding a tablet or iPad. This is perfect for keeping up with your favourite programs while working out.
Built into the console are some nice touches such as the three speed fan that does a great job of cooling. There is also a revised set of speakers, if you are not a fan of headphones while working out then you will find that the sound quality from the speakers has been improved making them great to play music through.
Since the resistance is delivered by eddy current (basically big magnets) there is really little noise coming from the bike. Even at high resistance levels there is little noise from the bike.
What makes the Schwinn 230 Special?
Console. We like the new Schwinn 230 features such as the new oversized console that makes fitness tracking easier than ever. It comes with a Duel LCD Window System that allows you to monitor up to 13 different display feedbacks. It also has 22 built-in workout programs. We found this kept us motivated and challenged for longer.
Seating. The new Schwinn is incredibly comfortable. The Schwinn 230 Recumbent Bike delivers a challenging workout in a relaxed position plus increased lower back support. It has a padded seat bottom with a contoured leg area for maximum comfort, as well. Plus, its slider seat rail system has an easy-to-operate lever system, making it extra convenient for you to find the best cycling position at all times. Without doubt, this relaxed body positioning and lower-back support let you ride in maximum comfort with minimum strain.
Body & Frame Design. Known for its top-quality design and innovation, Schwinn has once again pleasantly surprised exercise buffs and newbies alike with a recumbent bike whose two integrated levelers and a center frame support easily make for a solid workout platform. Plus, it comes with built-in transport wheels that allow for easy movement from room to room.
• Advanced Specs. The Schwinn 220 has 20 resistance levels and a high speed, high inertia perimeter weighted flywheel which keeps workouts smooth and quiet. More so, it comes with acoustic chamber speakers, a USB charging port, a 3-speed fan, a media rack, and contact heart rate monitoring built into the handlebars.

The schwinn 230 scores a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Most users like the elegant design, and the great price. For a recumbent of this quality I don’t think you will find many cheaper than the Schwinn 270. It is easy to assemble and all the parts arrive intact.

Any negatives?
A couple of users have reported light cosmetic damage on arrival. However they generally report good feedback as the retailer has been good at shipping out replacement parts. The other feedback is just styling, one reports that the water bottle is not so conveniently placed as they would like!
If you are wanting a little more in the way of workout programs then there is the Schwinn 270 to consider, a slightly more expensive model.
