Don't Believe in their Warranty/ Cheaply Made/ Get a Different Brand
I purchased this bike on 2/26/16. The bike started making a faint rattling noise before even a month of ownership. The noise wasn't that noticeable at the time. I wasn't too worried because I thought my warranty would be useful if it ever got too bad... Nope, big mistake.Fast forward to today: 8/11/16. It's now making an unbearable rattling noise (look at video). Bear in mind, I use the bike about 5 times a week for 1 hour each day. I finally decided to call Schwinn today to try and get some sort of replacement, but after a 30 minute conversation I found out that the only thing that the warranty entails is replacement parts. Being as it is only replacement parts, they require you diagnosis the bike yourself... Now does this idea sound ridiculous? The average consumer is not going to have any experience with diagnosing a bike over a phone call. On top of that, he told me I will have to purchase a tool (a crank puller) to disassemble the bike and further diagnosis it.. "It's only $20," he said. At this point I asked, "What's the point of having this warranty then?" "You only get parts." I even asked the rep if I could somehow mail the unit back to them so that they could take a look at it. Nope, can't do that either. They said they could send a technician out to repair it for $180. I paid $380 and it's going to cost that much? I sarcastically laughed and gave up, I didn't have the heart to argue about this and told the rep to have a nice day and hung up.Also, the bike is cheaply made. I was fully aware of that before purchasing the bike, but I didn't know it was this cheap. Even the metal wheel in the bike came all scratched and dirty. (Look at pictures). Looking at other reviews, this seems to be a common issue as well.TL;DR: Common rattling issues. Don't buy. Warranty terrible. Cheaply made. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

I tried this bike out at the local sporting goods store and I loved it. And yes I'm a schmuck and bought it through Amazon for $60 less. Overall a great bike, especially for the beginner but with plenty of challenges for the advanced rider. Main selling features, QUIET, SMOOTH, Programs.

Setup: My 9 year old and I set this up in under an hour. Easy! All tools are included. No hunting in your garage for wrenches.

Computer: The booklet I had did not come with more in depth information on setting up for profiles, modes etc, but I found it here: [...](Ok amazon took the link out - Search online for Schwinn 170 manual and you'll find it at the Nautilus website) And I printed up a few pages starting at page 23. Once I had this in hand it was very easy to set up profiles for the family and understand the different modes.

Modes: There are several built in programs or rides you can enjoy. Fun Rides, Challenge and Mountains (4 each in each mode). In Fun Rides I selected rolling hills and even as a beginner bicyclist who is not exactly in shape (thus this awesome bike) I could keep up. The cool feature was that you could adjust the overall resistance for any program as you build stamina and strength. So for example Rolling Hills starts at level 4 and hits level 8 a couple of times, but you could have it start on level 6 and build from there instead for more of a challenge. That's an excellent feature that means you wont outgrow your bicycle anytime soon; always something to strive for.

Goal Type: You can set the bike to a goal of time, calories or miles. For right now I've set it to rolling hills 30 minutes. But if you wanted more time, you could pick your mode, and set more time, or if you were training for a bike race, pick your mileage.

Seat: When I tried this out at the store, I thought the seat was brutal. I promptly ordered a new seat and installed that on the bike the day it arrived. No good. I went back to the seat it came with. The Seat it comes with is WIDE in the back and for any of you ladies, not unlike myself, who may be wider in the back, this is a great option! LOL Even if you aren't wide in the back, the wider seat allows you to sit back on your sitz bones and not on your pubic bones. Also a tip, tilt the seat down one crank so the pressure of the seat is not on your sensitive parts or pubic bones. (this handy tip was supplied by my husband for which I am forever grateful! :)

Speaker: This bike comes with a USB charging port and a connector to its built in speakers. This is very COOL! I put a video on my kindle, I plug it in, I get great, clear sound, watch a video - BAM 30 minutes are over in no time and I got a great workout! Not going to lie the speaker was a nice selling feature!

Schwinn Connect: Ok.. I'm still trying to figure this out. If you attach your USB device, it should save to it. Hmmm.. haven't got that to work out that way yet. BUT..I'll figure it out. Once the .dat file is saved to the USB device, you can go to scwhinn connect online, make an account and upload your date. I really want to do this because it will show not only time, calories burned, but RPMs, mileage, resistance and I will see myself build STRENGTH over time, and stamina. This is a the main goal for me in getting this bike. Also you can connect your SchwinnConnect to Myfitness Pal. There are some quirks I've read in this but they are working on it.

Heart Rate Monitor: It has a heart rate monitor that you can hold on and it will measure for you, but it has a way to connect to a third party heart rate monitor. Very cool if you are training. I'm not at that level, I'm just happy to get on and not fall off for 1/2 hour, so I dont think I will be needing this right yet ;)

Pedals: Pedals are comfy. Has adjustable foot straps.

Positioning of Handlebars and Seats: It is VERY easy to reposition the seat and the bars for multiple users, my 9 year old adjusts the seat when he wants to go for a spin. Easy!

Fan: The bike also comes with a built in fan. I'm 5' 3" so it tends to blow in my eyes even on the most downward setting, I'll put an index card there to adjust the breeze more BUT..the fan is great. 3 modes and its QUIET also.

Resistance: The bikes resistance is very very smooth. As you ride and if you are doing a program the resistance will automatically change for you. OR..if you just want to "Get on your bike and RIDE" (as the late great Freddy once said), just select a resistance number and peddle. It will take about 5 seconds for the resistance to build to the strength you want, but once again very very SMOOTH.

Calorie Measure: Ok.. I'm not thinking this is quite accurate but then again.. my goal is just to move, build strength and stamina and that WILL burn calories and it doesn't matter what this machine says. I'm in my target heart rate (thanks to the built in HR monitor), sometimes I go into anaerobic, and thats good too and I'm moving!

Overall - Very VERY nice bike, download the fuller manual, adjust the seat to tilt down a notch and go for it!

I pre-ordered this bike, and wanted to give a detailed review for anyone who is considering purchasing it.

Shipping - While this isn't directly related to the bike, our box did have minor damage, including some of the foam inside being broken. I only mention this as it relates to the boxing Schwinn uses. The bike doesn't appear to have taken any damage though in our case, so this wasn't a problem.

Build Quality/Construction - The bike seems very sturdy, and the materials are high quality as far as I can tell. The flywheel on ours seemed to have some minor knicks/imperfections upon visual inspection, but this hasn't had any negative effect on the performance of the bike. The bike was fairly easy to assemble, and took about an hour. There are parts of the assembly where having a second person helps, to hold something up while you connect the electronics, etc.

Resistance - The bike offers 25 levels of resistance, and the magnetic flywheel changes resistance so smoothly you barely notice it. The pedal motion is also really smooth and consistent, the bike's motion has a great feel to it. I can't believe it only cost me $400.

Display - The display is fairly basic, but gives the information needed. There are actually two displays, which is nice, as one can show you statistics while the other has bars to show the course or program you are doing. The 2nd display is visible even if you put a book or tablet on the holder, which is also nice, so you can still see your statistics.

Settings - There are several programs available, including ones that adjust to keep your heart rate steady. Once you select a program, you can choose a goal of calories, distance, or time. You can also set up user profiles. The profiles let it calculate your calories, etc. more carefully. Also, you can apparently upload your workouts with a USB stick to track them online, I haven't tested this feature yet.

Features - The bike has several convenient features. It has nice extra-large pedals (they don't have the problems mentioned in the other Schwinn model reviews). The seat is easily adjusted by pulling out the knob, and is large and pretty comfortable compared to other bikes I've tried. The bike also includes a cupholder, a fan that puts out decent air, and speakers which you can attach your iPod/tablet to.

Aesthetics - The bike is very pleasant to look at. The matte black finish really looks high quality, and the red accents are a nice touch. My wife isn't even ashamed to have it in our living room, which can't be said for most fitness equipment!

Sound - The bike is really quiet. One time, my wife didn't realize I had started pedaling because she couldn't hear anything from accross the room watching TV. The console does make loud beeping sounds when you push the buttons, or when you achieve a new record for distance/calories, but you can turn those off if you don't want it to make noise.

Overall, this bike is an amazing value. My wife and I both really enjoy it so far, and I would highly recommend it. We are really happy we took the risk of preordering this one instead of choosing other options we tested at several fitness equipment stores.

SEE BELOW. I have updated this review and removed 2 stars. It should get zero stars!

The bike was easy to put together (I say that because my son did it ;-) ). It was also easy to set up (again, my son set it up). It was easy to figure out and program. I did that part myself. The main drawback is the seat. It is SO uncomfortable. I could probably ride for a long time but that seat is painful. I shouldn't have to look for a new seat for a brand new bike, but I'm afraid I won't use it if I don't change that seat. The bike itself is great though. Only 3 stars because the seat is painful.

Additional comment: I was asked why the seat is painful. It is too hard and the front part that comes almost to a point rubs while I pedal. Horribly uncomfortable. I purchased a seat cover (gel) that was supposed to fit it. Sadly it is WAY too small. And that was a Schwinn cover. I'm starting to think that Schwinn isn't the wonderful product that it used to be. So as I said, WAY too hard- oh and strangely it has a dip up the middle??? Almost dividing the seat. So weird.

OK it's now a little more than 2 months since I got this bike. What a piece of JUNK! It is clacking and making horrible noises. The heart rate monitor is not even close to accurate. The calorie counter is not accurate either. Save your money- buy something better. HORRIBLY DISAPPOINTED.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. 10/10 would buy again.
Reviewed in Canada on November 5, 2015
Excellent. Extremely quiet and very robust with lots of settings. Putting it together was around the same difficulty as putting together a bed from Ikea. I'm using it upstairs in the master bedroom and no one else can hear a thing, which is great, especially with the mat. It also looks quite nice with a sleek aesthetic and doesn't need to be hidden away in some nook or basement.

The bike itself is nice and sturdy, without any wobbling or unstableness. It pedals well and I like the little notifications it gives you when you pass your milestones. Feels good. It also remembers your previous workouts so you can keep track of your progress. Not to mention it has multiple profiles so more than one person can track their workouts. Other than that it has the standard slew of cycling regimes but I mostly just use the milestone workouts such as going for 300 calories burned or 1 hour ride or so.

The stuff like the fan, usb, and speakers are all nice to have too. I wasn't expecting them but they're great. Especially the fan. I also really like how the center console was designed as there are a lot of places to put your phone, water, tablets, laptops, etc. I put my Surface Pro 3 there and read e-books while cycling.

I do wish it was easier to install the seat without scratching all the plastic (it's the way it's installed, very weird) and that you could move the handlebars. The plastic housing was a little weird as it took quite a lot of percussive maintenance to get it to fit properly. Also the seat is a little uncomfortable but that's to be expected I guess. The manual also sucks. It basically tells you to go online for the manual.

All-in-all it's a very comprehensive product and I feel I got very good value for my money.

Nice bike. I had a recumbent bike from Schwinn and liked it, so decided to stick with the brand. Easy to set up. Clean lines. Handle bars functional. Wish you could adjust how far back they are positioned. Seat too wide and pushes you off the bike as you are riding. Display is easy to read and pleasant to look at. All range of cyclists skill can use this bike. I'm five ft three so the adjustable seat (forward and back) is very handy. Fan is nice and strong but only blows on your face. Quiet as can be, no buts on that one. Slight clicking vibration on each revolution from right peddle, not sure what that is. Bike seems sturdy for being so light weight.
All in all this bike is pretty good for what I expected.

The bike is OK but many readings displayed on its console are incorrect. The average resistance level displayed in workout stats is higher than the actual one; the speed (and distance respectively) is dramatically higher than what one might expect; and the heart rate is totally out to lunch (the bike console routinely displays readings over 220 bpm while my portable oximeter shows about 100 bpm). I know the speed and distance are not an accurate reflection of what could be achieved on an outdoor bike but I think it's fair to expect them to be within a reasonable range. If I were capable to riding a bike at the speeds displayed by this console, I'd be in Tour de France, not in my basement. And the best part was the advice from the customer care dept of the bike producer: turn off the console if the speed readings distract you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Home Use !

Product was delivered quickly and in good condition.
Assembly was easy using instructions and was done by one person in around an hour and a half. Having a second person to help align bolt holes and help out would have been better but was not required.
Bike itself works well. Although I would not say it is "gym quality" it is well constructed and feels very solid when in use. As mentioned in other reviews it would be very helpful to have written instructions supplied with the bike on how to operate the different programs as opposed to having to go online to get these. Somewhat annoying to have to do this instead of having these supplied with the package.
I was fortunate enough to have an old heart rate monitor chest strap that must be " uncoded" as it sends the signal to the bike to give a constant heart rate reading to the bike to tell me what my heart rate is at. Before I found this I had tried using the handle bar area to monitor this and although it works well I did not like the area on the handle bars where you have to place your hands. I would have preferred to have the hand position higher up on the handle bars.
I have been using the bike for around a month now on a regular basis and have not had any issues at all with it other then having to retighten the seat adjustment knob a few times to keep it from squeaking a bit when it loosens off.
I have not tried to transfer data from the bike to a USB stick yet as this is not of interest to me at the moment but think that on the newer model of this bike that it is done using bluetooth and should be much easier.
I purchased this bike at a sale price of 40% off and at that price have found it to be an excellent value !

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable and Quiet

This bike has held up well with frequent workouts. My husband also uses it weekly so it has been ok for 2 users. It was relatively easy to install and it is extremely quiet. I like that it has a plug in for the console instead of batteries. The fan is a great feature and I like the built in programs, I prop my tablet on the console shelf and stream Netflix while working out. My only complaint would be that the neck of the bike where it connects to the body is a bit loose. Otherwise, extremely happy with this purchase,
