Recently launched (and new for this year) comes the Proform ZE 6 Elliptical Trainer. The previous generation of Proform Ellipticals had a few failings, but since the launch of the 1110E Elliptical it seems Proform have upped their game. This is a new generation of mid level trainers designed to be solid enough that you don’t miss the ones at the gym, yet are affordable for anyone to own. With a price of under $700 this might be one of the best value trainers on the market.

Proform have equipped this trainer with some market leading features, for example there are 18 workout programs, grouped into weight loss, cardio and performance zones. It will also measure your heart rate via the inbuilt sensors. The heart rate will feed into the console and all the data is delivered via the clear and intuitive LCD display.

Space a premium?

Gone are the days where you had to squeeze a massive treadmill into your home gym to get a good quality workout. Proform have addressed this by making their new elliptical as compact as possible, yet with the premium grade steel its still really strong and will last. There is a lifetime warranty on the frame, so Proform are confident that the ZE 6 will last!

Target the muscles you need

To ensure that you target the workout to the right place for you the Proform XE 6 has 10 different resistance levels, harder levels will maximise your workout. Also you can set up the machine to work at different heights, up to 20 degrees. Flat will target your hamstrings, full height will make your thighs work harder.

The adjustment has to be done manually, while you are off the machine. It would be nice to see this as an automatic adjustment, but for the price its still very good.

Console and Display

Front and center of the ZE 6 Elliptical Trainer is a large clear console with simple to use buttons. This is where all the workout details are fed back. It contains all of the pre programmed workouts and other useful information. A large LCD display is easy to read, and works under all lighting conditions. We like the included AC adapter cable, and if you prefer not run a cable then you can use batteries to keep the console going.

Also built into the console are some reasonably good quality speakers. The do a good job of playing music and keeping you motivated. The stand can also take an iPod, and your music can play through the integrated speakers.

Other Features:

The machine is made from high strength tubular steel making it sturdy and extremely durable. The foot pads were made designed to be oversized to help absorb the extra shock and slip resistant to prevent accidents during heavy workouts.

Along with all of the basics, Proform added a few extra bells and whistle. This includes an oversized bottle holder to keep you hydrated during your workout sessions. You will also find an iPod port and a great set of built in speakers for you to enjoy while working out.

Our Final Thoughts

The ProForm ZE 6 is new for 2014, and seems to be a good improvement over its previous version. With its compact form, strong frame and easy construction there does not seem to be any issues with the machine. Older machines from Proform all had a couple of niggling issues that put us off them. Since their updates in 2013 these critics have been silenced, the new ProForm 1110E has received top reviews and we expect the ProForm ZE 6 to do like wise.
